Railway Announces 6 Special Trains And Route Extensions For Haridwar Kanwar Yatra 2026

Northern Railway’s Moradabad division has announced six unreserved special trains and extended four existing routes to Haridwar station to manage the massive influx of pilgrims for the Shravan Kanwar Yatra starting July 30.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM) Mahesh Yadav confirmed that Train 74022 and Train 74023 Delhi-Shamli-Delhi DMU will now run up to Haridwar station. The extended service starts July 30 from Delhi and ends August 14 at Haridwar.

The Delhi-Saharanpur-Delhi MEMU route has also been extended to Haridwar. This service operates daily from Delhi between July 30 and August 13, and from Haridwar between July 31 and August 14.

The Haridwar-Delhi Shahdara-Haridwar unreserved Mela Special train will run from July 30 to August 13. Other trains passing through the zone, including Train 04315 and Train 04316 Yog Nagari Rishikesh-Delhi Shahdara-Yog Nagari Rishikesh, will also run on designated schedules.

To secure night transit for pilgrims, Urja Nigam has deployed temporary street lighting across pilgrim routes under District Magistrate Mayur Dixit’s orders. A total of 6,265 LED lights are being installed in Haridwar and Roorkee divisions at a cost of Rs 120.60 lakh.

The state government sanctioned Rs 6.30 crore for overall Kanwar Yatra infrastructure.

Superintending Engineer Pradeep Chaudhary stated that Haridwar division is getting 1,855 LED lights costing Rs 45.20 lakh. This includes 1,152 LEDs along the CCR Tower to Dhanauri stretch, 114 LEDs across Sadhna Chowk, Bairagi Camp, Shanidev Chowk, Pilot Baba Ashram, and Matri Sadan routes, plus 434 lights across Chandi Bridge, Chandi Ghat, Kotdwar Road, and Chidiyapur.

Roorkee division gets 4,410 LED lights worth Rs 75.40 lakh. Installations cover Daulatpur to Mohammadpur with 1,941 LEDs, 470 LEDs from Crystal World to Sonali Bridge, 470 LEDs from Dhanauri to Sonali Bridge, and 1,529 LEDs from Dhanauri to Kali Nadi bypass in Bhagwanpur.

Meanwhile, Prantiya Nagar Udyog Vyapar Mandal district president Dr. Vishal Garg held a joint meeting with Bhimgoda, Bhupatwala, and Kharkhari business units to raise infrastructure concerns. Local traders urged the administration to clear all temporary roadside encroachments from main markets and pilgrim footpaths before the Kanwar Yatra commences on July 30.
