Jewar Airport Update : The path for commercial flights from Jewar is now wide open as a high-level delegation led by Noida International Airport CEO Christoph Schnellmann met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.

The team formally presented the Aerodrome License issued by the Government of India, marking the most critical regulatory milestone in the project’s history. This license shifts the focus from construction to immediate operationalization, effectively starting the countdown for the mega-airport’s grand inauguration in Gautam Buddha Nagar.

Final Security Clearances and Inauguration Timeline

With the aerodrome license secured, the airport management is now navigating the final phase of regulatory protocols to ensure a seamless launch. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is currently reviewing the Aerodrome Security Programme, which serves as the ultimate safety audit before planes take to the skies.

Once this security clearance is granted, the state government and airport officials will finalize the specific date for the first commercial flight, which is expected to transform the aviation landscape of Western Uttar Pradesh and the NCR.

Massive Capacity to Serve 12 Million Passengers

The first phase of the Jewar airport is engineered to handle a staggering 12 million passengers annually, providing a much-needed alternative to Delhi’s IGI Airport. The infrastructure includes a terminal building sprawling over 1.38 lakh square meters, equipped with 48 check-in counters and 10 modern aerobridges. To ensure rapid aircraft turnover, the runway is designed to manage 30 flight operations per hour, supported by 28 dedicated aircraft parking stands.

Swiss Efficiency Meets High-Tech Indian Hospitality

CEO Christoph Schnellmann briefed the Chief Minister on the integration of “Swiss efficiency” with Indian service standards, highlighting the airport’s tech-forward approach. Travelers will experience a paperless journey through DigiYatra-based biometric processing and self-baggage drop facilities. Beyond passenger travel, the site is poised to become a global logistics node, featuring a cargo hub with an initial capacity of 250,000 tonnes, eventually scaling up to 1.5 million tonnes to boost regional trade.

A Net-Zero Vision for Western Uttar Pradesh

Environmental sustainability remains at the core of the Jewar project, with the campus aiming for a net-zero emissions footprint. The infrastructure integrates massive solar energy generation, rainwater harvesting systems, and extensive electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. As the project moves into its second, third, and fourth phases, the total capacity will climb to 70 million passengers, cementing Noida International Airport as a cornerstone for investment, tourism, and massive employment generation across the region.
