Honda 0α Electric SUV : Honda Cars India has officially shifted its electrification journey into high gear, flagging off the first pan-India public road validation for the Honda 0α (Zero Alpha) electric SUV. The camouflaged prototype, which first debuted at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, was seen exiting the company’s manufacturing facility in Rajasthan on Monday.
This testing phase marks a critical transition from controlled environments to the unpredictable rigors of Indian highways and urban congestion. The testing program is specifically designed to stress-test the SUV’s “Thin, Light, and Wise” architecture against India’s extreme climate variables.
Engineers are focusing on battery thermal management during peak summer heat and waterproofing integrity during the monsoon season. This rigorous validation comes as Honda confirms that India will serve as the exclusive production base for the 0α, with plans to export the model back to Japan and other international markets.
Despite a broader global recalibration that saw Honda cancel three North American EV projects—including the flagship 0-Series Sedan—the India-spec 0α project has been Ringfenced.
The company’s ₹1,200-crore investment in Rajasthan is already being utilized to retool production lines for the new dedicated EV platform. This “born-electric” chassis allows for a flat floor and a wheelbase expected to reach up to 2,800 mm, offering significantly more cabin space than converted internal combustion rivals.
Competitive Landscape & Market Positioning
The Honda 0α will enter a fiercely contested mid-size electric SUV segment. By the time it reaches showrooms in the 2026-27 fiscal year, it will face established incumbents and high-profile newcomers.
| Feature | Honda 0α (Zero Alpha) | Maruti Suzuki e Vitara | Hyundai Creta EV |
| Platform | Dedicated EV (0-Series) | Dedicated EV (27PL) | Modified K2 Platform |
| Estimated Range | ~500 km | 400 – 500 km | 400 – 450 km |
| Battery Size | 65 kWh – 75 kWh (LFP) | 49 kWh – 61 kWh | 45 kWh – 60 kWh |
| Drive Layout | FWD (AWD expected later) | FWD / AWD | FWD |
| Launch Timeline | FY 2026 – 2027 | Available Now | Mid 2025 |
While official pricing remains under wraps, industry analysts expect the 0α to carry a premium positioning, likely starting between ₹22 lakh and ₹28 lakh.
The SUV features a unique silhouette with 19-inch aero-designed alloy wheels and a distinctive U-shaped LED light signature. Honda’s focus on high-speed DC charging is expected to allow the 0α to replenish from 15% to 80% in approximately 15 minutes, a key metric to counter range anxiety in the Indian market.
